(9-032) - Sketch commemorating the historic events leading to Boulder Power arriving in Los Angeles with Ezra Scattergood seen at center.

Date: 1930s

Description: In 1933 Ezra Scattergood travelled to Washington to borrow money for the construction of the Boulder Dam-LA Transmission Line. He was successful in obtaining a 10-year federal loan for $22,799,000. This enabled The Bureau of Power and Light to construct the historic 266 mile transmission line that brought Boulder Dam power to Los Angeles.

One year later, LA voters approved a bond measure to refinance the original 10-year loan to a 40-year loan.

Description: Large First Aid Kit with supplies. Municipal Light - Water - Power large seal on case.

Historical Notes: In 1902, Los Angeles formed its first municipal water utility and named it the Water Department. Nine years later the Bureau of Power and Light came along. A total of six different names have been used to refer to the two separate water and power organizations since that time. Not until 1937 did both organizations merge and become the Department of Water and Power.
